On May 20th, 2011 we started building our house in Steinfurt-Borghorst. This is a relatively small village, halfway between Enschede in The Netherlands and Muenster in Germany. We hope to move and settle in before Christmas. Take a look at the pictures if you want.

We started building with a firm (Baukonzept Helga Winkler GmbH, Gronau), but they jumped ship in August, 2011. Not a nice experience; we were left with a house "under construction" without a roof and windows, but we gradually managed to turn it into something nearing completion. By the end of February, 2012 we will move in.

End of February, beginning of March 2012 we moved from Bad Aibling to Steinfurt-Borghorst and managed to transfer our house into a comfortable home. The company that we started building with, filed for bankruptcy in december 2012. It turned out that they had not paid any of the sub-contractors and a lot of hard-working people ended up finding themselves in severe financial difficulties.

I was fortunate to find a couple of parttime jobs with the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (now the Pearson Centre), a Canadian company, and SCS (Systems Consutants Services), a company based in the UK.

With Pearson, I prepared operational-level documentation for an exercise with Rapid Reaction Corps, France (based in Lille) and I contributed to the development of the Main Events List/Main Icidents List. During the exercise proper, I was Chief of the Higher Control Cell, where I got to work with Rick Findley, retired 3-star Canadian general.

With SCS, I got to be the brigade commander of the second brigade under HQ ACE Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) during exercise Noble Ledger, conducted at RAF St. Mawgan in the south-western part of the UK. Other members of my team were: Frank Freeman, Paul White, Paul Randall and Mike Jackson. A great bunch!!!

In August, 2010 we enjoyed a fantastic holiday in the South of France. We dedicated our first week to cultural stuff and our second week was golf-heavy.

Especially our second week was very special; we stayed at La Louviere des Bruyeres, a marvellous place with very warm hosts (Dominique & Sylvaine). And our golf pro, Bill Owens, once again proved to be a charismatic, gifted teacher with a marvellous feel for transferring skills to others.

Our PRO, Bill Owens; the man is a singer as well!
